Canvas is more threatened by AI design frontier like Claude design capabilities than Figma imho. Why because Figma is for experts and canva not. Figma targets product team productivity and product engineering workflows while Canvas is used by non designer to create designed stuff like ads, presentation and other marketing stuff that are much less complex design wise. So by its positioning, persona and ai platform envelopment angles, Figma has more room to survive than say Canva.
Not sure if I agree. Maybe time will tell but Canva is $4b ARR growing 40%+— that’s 3x the scale of Figma and I still find myself going to Canva first to whip something up quickly. Why wait for Claude code or design if I can do it myself quicker and faster AND use AI if I want to
I personally think solo designers is much easier to replace in the future especially with the emergence of AI (agents will be able to do it in the background) which is what Canva is strong in. Things that are hard for Claude to replace are distribution and collaborative work which Figma already have existing users.
I concur with the analysis, Figma is de facto the design system layer for AI development workflow. Also I use it to connect via MCP to all my AI agents to create a code design loop keeping design always up to date and shareable among different AI agents because it is AI agent agnostic. It also act as the guardrail of the design, branding and visual communication layer across all AI workflows including marketing and sales. Being agnostic, I think it is one of its strength.

i think the street is underwriting how many engineers that might actually use figma in the future
